Frequently Asked Questions
Can I visit the farm?
Sorry, we are closed to the general public as our micro-flower farm is an extension of our backyard. We host periodic flower field tours for our local florists, so be sure to get on our list if that includes you!
Where can I buy your blooms?
We sell our blooms to florists and throughout our local community.
Florists: We send out a weekly availability list during the season, so please connect with us by sending an email to hello@flowerthieffarms.com so we can include you on the weekly email.
Non-Florist Flower Lovers: There are 3 ways to secure our flowers in 2024: monthly market wrap subscriptions (launching March 2024)…order from our Online Bloom Shop and pick up from the farm…or head over to Juniper Station in Napa, California for a selection of our flowers. We also accept custom inquiries, so just drop us an email on what you need!
Please use our Contact page or Bloom List page to learn more and get in the know. Also be sure to follow us on Instagram (@flowerthieffarms) as we regularly post about flower sales there.
What varieties do you grow?
Flower Thief Farms focuses on specialty varieties and color selections. We work diligently to grow hard-to-find flowers, filler and plants in high demand for designers and events. We grow a wide variety of flowers, but our most popular are: Tulips, Peonies, Ranunculus, Anemones, Dahlias, Garden Roses, Cosmos, Sweet Peas, Snapdragons, Celosia, Scabiosa, Strawflower, Rudbeckia and designer Zinnias.
Are your flowers organic?
While our flowers are not certified organic, we employ organic farming methods and regenerative farming practices on our farm. We never use pesticides, herbicides, dyes, spray paint (yes, it’s a thing) or anything else toxic to the earth or you. So stop and smell those roses without any worry.
We also employ a no-till, raised bed operation. This benefits the soil health greatly and creates thriving ecosystems for the earth and flowers.
How big is your farm?
Our micro flower farm is about 1/8 acre. We use an high intensity production farming as taught by Floret Flowers in order to maximize our production in the most efficient way. The equivalent in terms of an average flower farm using regular farming and spacing methods would be 1/4-1/2 acre production.
How do I care for my blooms?
One of the many benefits of buying local, seasonal flowers is they are so much fresher than your typical grocery store blooms. Many times, they are picked the exact morning you receive them. They should last longer, with just a little care to maximize things: change the water every day, keep them away from heat and snip the ends 1-2 times a week and you’ll have beautiful blooms 5-10 days, depending on the variety. We’ve even had some of our ranunculus last 2 weeks!
Where are you located?
Napa, California - zone 9b.
Do you make arrangements I can send a friend?
Yes! Please see our Shop page to order arrangements for pick-up and delivery. We ask for 3 days advance notice, but we can sometimes accommodate quicker turn around so always ask.
Do you do weddings or events?
Yes! We offer two types of wedding florals: A La Carte and Bulk Flowers. Please send us an email at hello@flowerthieffarms.com with your inquiry and we will provide you with our information.
How did you learn to farm flowers?
We. Read. Everything. And eventually took the leap and jumped right in. We also are a member of Floret’s Flower Farming Course 2022, as well as the Tulip Workshop. Both of these programs have been fundamental to our education and training on the proper way to not only grow flowers, but how to harvest them correctly for the longest vase life for our clients. We continue to invest every year in more courses whether it’s on regenerative flower farming or floristry design.
Why the name Flower Thief Farms?
That’s a good story you can find on the blog, but long story short, at the ripe age of 6, we became serial flower thieves and the rest is history.
What is your favorite flower?
Like picking a favorite kid - not possible. But a vase overflowing with double speciality tulips takes our breath away every time.
